School Development

Information from our MLA's Office

Decisions to fund new schools and modernize aging schools are a made in collaboration with provincial school jurisdictions. Each year the school boards are required to submit their three-year capital plans to Education. These plans identify and prioritize the jurisdiction’s capital needs to accommodate student enrolment growth and major building modernization requirements.

School jurisdictions’ capital plan submissions are evaluated by Education based on several criteria including health and safety concerns, building condition, school utilization rates, enrolment growth projections and the availability of a suitable site. The current 2021-2024 Three Year Capital Plan for the Calgary Catholic Separate Board (CCSD) has an Elementary/Jr. High location in Legacy as their # 2 priority and Elementary/Jr. High location in Walden as their # 5 priority. The Calgary Board of Education has a K-4 Elementary as their # 8 priority and a 5-9 middle school in Legacy as their # 20 priority.  Please find attached a copy of the 2021-2024 Capital Plans available on the boards respective websites.

Elected school boards are responsible for making capital priority decisions, as locally elected trustees are in the best position to evaluate and respond to the unique circumstances and priorities of the communities they serve. If you would like to connect to the elected representative for Legacy you may contact CBE trustee Mike Bradshaw at [email protected] or CCSD trustee Mary Martin at [email protected].
